Two dead in Tondo fire

 

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 24) — Two elderly women died in a fire that razed houses in Tondo, Manila early morning of Christmas Eve.

The fire in Moriones St. was first reported by Twitter account TXT Fire Philippines at 3:36 a.m. on Thursday.

According to an initial radio report, authorities from the Manila Fire Bureau found the body of 88-year-old Flor Hernandez and her sister Gongocia Ramos, 82, who were both trapped in their residence.

Another senior citizen, Santiago Hernandez, reportedly sustained minor injuries after attempting to rescue his bed-ridden wife and her sister.

The fire, which destroyed three houses, was declared under control at 4:24 a.m.

Earlier in the day, authorities responded to a separate fire incident in a residential area at around 2 a.m. in Brgy 178 St. Theresa St. in Maricaban, Pasay City that reached second alarm an hour later.

Authorities declared a fire out at 4:24 am. No fatalities were reported from this blaze as of writing.

Investigations are ongoing for both incidents.
